Hmm... right... Well, I had an idea about Sherlock's doings post-Reichenbach, tracking of Moriarty's web of crime taking him to northern Canada and, in order to obtain information on some subject, joining a pirate crew on the Beaufort Sea! And also living his childhood dream, aww! 
I liked the idea of Sherlock being a pirate in some cold, remote parts of the world, somehow the cold frame fits him more than the classic warm climate pirates, at least to me
Blame it on those freakishly beautiful eyes 
Anyway, I might one day jot down a small one-shot that goes with this picture...

I swear I commented on this but it would appear I didn't. I have no idea why because this is yet another of my all time favorites from your gallery.
I really do love your Hiatus!Lock pics. He just seems so adventuress and so deadly in all of them and I really love this different take on Sherlock fulfilling a childhood dream and becoming a pirate to get to moriarty XD It just seems a little more realistic than the sort of Pirates of the Caribbean stuff that immediately comes to mind after Mycroft's little in site into that particular desire, but it's still equally, if not more badass XD
This is my headcanon man, and will be until Season 3 disproves it (if they disprove it, which I don't think they will, so yay! XD)
As for the picture itself. It's really, really cool. I love Sherlock's expression, very focused, very serious and very very dangerous which really fits in with the sort of mindset he would have to have whilst hunting down criminals of the caliber he is chasing after
And the out fit is awesome. It sort of looks like something the water tribe would wear in avatar (not sure if you've seen that) but yeah, just really cool. And I really love the earing (or is it some sort of beaded braid) hanging down beside his face. I don't know but that little detail just makes the outfit look so much for authentic.
